Port of Sohar also supports the TransOman Conference titled "Transportation Innovation and Challenges" as platinum sponsor. The Conference is set from 14th to 15th October at the Golden Tulip Hotel Seeb in Muscat.

Port of Sohar is ranked as the fastest port development of modern times. With over 14 billion dollars investments during the past years, Port of Sohar, is already a home to a prestigious line-up of industrial tenants and services providers.

"In spite of the downturn, Port of Sohar is witnessing a growth in the number of ships this year; and the port is set to continue its development plans. TransOman is the right platform for Port of Sohar to encourage industry players to check out the various opportunities that are available in the port," said Annica Sigevall, Head of Corporate Communications at Port of Sohar.

Port of Sohar is endowed with all the characteristics of a maritime gateway for cargo into the gulf such as deepwater draughts (-18metres), modern container, break bulk cargo and liquid terminals, as well as other world-class facilities.

"Port of Sohar hosts a range of projects that significantly contribute to the socio-economic development in Oman. Investments in the port generate vast employment opportunities, targeted to reach set Omanisation levels," Annica said.

The close proximity of Freezone Sohar to Port of Sohar has considerable logistics advantages and provides quality infrastructure services, thus making investments more competitive.

Port of Sohar hosts numerous ventures including the Brazilian iron ore giant Vale, which will position Oman as a pellet distribution hub, serving steel plants in the Middle East, North Africa and Indian Sub Continent. To host this facility foreign companies are currently bidding for the project to build a 600-metre long jetty.

Sohar's mega industrial ventures underline a major employment generation in the Batinah region and enhance the existing foreign direct investment.
