Publishers participate in a discussion during the first round of training held in June 2009.
Starting on 27 September and running until 1 October, the training sessions will be led by internationally recognised industry experts and will focus on providing practical knowledge-building discussions that are aimed at industry professionals at the mid-management level from across the Arab world. Topics up for discussion over the five days include the economic realities of a publishing house, planning and strategy and the legal background and practical aspects of licensing.

Monika Krauss, General Manager of Kitab, said:
"The region's emerging publishing industry holds many opportunities for those who are fully equipped with the skills and knowledge to take advantage of them. Kitab is committed to enabling the continued professional development of the region's publishing industry so that it can realise its potential. These training courses ensure that this commitment is put into positive action."

"The first publisher's training sessions were held in June and targeted the CEO level. Building on the platform of success established, this time we are targeting mid-management level professionals in order to raise the bar right across the industry and ensure that skills cascade down through to all levels of the industry," she added.

The training programme is funded by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and the German Federal Foreign Office.
