Another commitment to Omani youth from The Wave, Muscat

As part of its ongoing campaign to develop skills in the young people of Oman, The Wave, Muscat has donated OR6,000 to the Outward Bound Oman/Tahaddi project.

Outward Bound, a global leader in education through experience has a presence in more than thirty countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Africa. Outward Bound Oman is the first in the Arab world.

Abdullah Al Shidi, Deputy CEO, The Wave, Muscat presented the cheque to Mark Evans, General Manager of Outward Bound Oman/Tahaddi, at The Wave, Muscat Sales Centre in the presence of senior officials.

Mr Al Shidi said:
"We see a great deal of potential in Oman's youngsters, and we are absolutely delighted to offer our support to Outward Bound Oman/Tahaddi project. It is essential to support Oman's enormously talented youth and we were extremely impressed by the work done by Outward Bound. We understand the importance and the benefits to the next generation."

Outward Bound was launched in May 2009 by the founding partners BG Oman, Denton Wilde Sapte, Shell and Suhail Bahwan Group. Working in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Outward Bound Oman/Tahaddi project was set up to use the desert, mountains and seas of Oman to develop key life skills through challenging outdoor journeys which take young people outside the classrooms and into a unique learning environment.

"With increasingly sedentary life-styles, and greater competition for jobs, the value of using the outdoors as a classroom is greater than it has ever been. On an Outward Bound course, young people are equipped with essential life skills, giving them a head start in all the challenges they face, and that includes applying for jobs," said Mr Evans.

"Through inspirational activities, including overnight team expeditions, an Outward Bound experience truly pushes young people's boundaries. As such, we focus on long term outcomes rather than short term, activity based experiences. It's that makes Outward Bound Oman unique," he added.
