  • Saudi Arabia: Monday, September 28 - 2009 at 11:52
  • PRESS RELEASE

Riyadh is preparing for its first taste of Canada as the ultra-luxury Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel introduces a one month Canadian festival celebrating the cuisine of the country.

The Canadian Food Festival will be open for dinner from 5th to 15th October at the hotel's Cristal restaurant. Il Terrazzo restaurant will feature Canadian meats and seafood daily for dinner throughout October.

La Brasserie restaurant will offer a Canadian night every Wednesday, and Friday Brunch will reflect the Canadian theme throughout the month.

The Canadian culinary extravaganza is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and gives Riyadh residents and visitors a chance to experience a close encounter with Canadian cuisine and culture.

The festival begins with a glamorous gala dinner at Cristal, under the patronage of His Excellency David Chatterson, Canadian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Other esteemed diplomats will be on hand to formally unveil the festival, along with senior representatives from Rosewood Hotels and Resorts and Mr. Wahid Kandil, CEO of Prairie Halal Foods Co, which is the main sponsor of the event.

Two top chefs from Canada's culinary world will be in residence at Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel during the festival. Chef Peter Keegan and Chef Matthew Cassidy have extensive experience at leading hotel properties across Canada, and Al Faisaliah Hotel is thrilled to welcome them to assist in orchestrating the festival in the property's renowned collection of dining venues.

"We are thrilled to introduce the diverse cuisine of Canada to Riyadh with the launch of the Canadian Food Festival. As the leading dining destination in Riyadh, we take great pleasure in continuing to contribute to the evolution of the Kingdom's dining scene. City residents and hotel guests are assured authentic, elegant meals in three of our most beloved restaurants,"

said Peter Finamore, Managing Director for Al Faisaliah Hotel, A Rosewood Hotel.

Cristal is the location for guests seeking traditional Canadian cuisine with a creative twist. Dinner is overseen by Chef Keegan and Chef Cassidy, as they support the Rosewood culinary crew to compile a full à la carte menu featuring some of Canada's most inspired dishes. From butter seared diver scallops to braised bison and sweet potato ravioli, diners at Cristal are assured nothing less than Canadian perfection during the festival.

For true connoisseurs, the Brazilian churrascaria Il Terrazzo offers guests a chance to broaden their horizons with Canadian meat never before seen in the Kingdom. Elk, Bison and Venison take centre stage on the skewer, and Riyadh residents and visitors are encouraged to sample the Alberta Angus beef, the famously tender and flavourful beef prized worldwide.

Meanwhile, La Brasserie will feature Canadian cuisine during the entire month of October. The restaurant will host Canadian live cooking stations at Al Faisaliah's well-regarded Friday Brunch as well as weekly Canadian themed dinners, giving guests and visitors the opportunity to sample the cuisine of Canada even after the festival has ended.
