Gulf Bank appoints Aly Shalaby as General Manager of Retail Banking

Gulf Bank has recently appointed Mr. Aly Shalaby, as General Manager of Retail Banking at Gulf Bank, following the approval of the Central Bank of Kuwait. Shalaby has over 30 years experience in the banking sector, with internationally renowned companies including the National Bank of Kuwait and Citibank.

Most recently, Shalaby was Group General Manager of National Bank of Kuwait's (NBK) Consumer Banking Group, heading up its activities in the areas of Consumer Credit (Lending and Credit Cards), Affluent and Private Banking Divisions, Marketing, Segments, Product Development, Advertising, Market Research, Management Information System, Central Retail Operations and the Group's Financial Control.

During his time at NBK, Shalaby brought several new initiatives to the market, including enhancement to customer service, the establishment of the direct sales team, the development of the Affluent Banking segment for NBK.

He also served on a number of internal executive committees and was elected as the Global Board Member for Diners Club International, officially representing the Gulf countries.

Before joining NBK, Shalaby held a number of roles at Citibank, where he played a fundamental role in the establishment of Citibank Egypt. He also assumed the position of Resident Vice President with Citi Egypt's Private Banking and Asset Management division, where he managed activities between Egypt's Private Banking business and Citicorp Investment Bank in Geneva, Switzerland.

Shalaby graduated from the American University in Cairo, Egypt with a BA in Economics complimented by a Minor in Management. He has also completed Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program in 2009.
