Jordan-based website Talasim.com competed with 1,500 international companies in SeedCamp.
The award winning followed a marathon competition, where 20 companies out of 1,500 contenders were qualified for the finals. The jackpot was a EUR50,000 prize.

Following the announcing of the winners, Talasim.com's co-founder and business development manager Sabri Hakim voiced pride in the achievement.

"We are thrilled over winning this international competition, an achievement that testifies to Arab young people's ability to excel in this age of hi-tech and take the lead from Western and Eastern countries that pioneered in this field," Hakim said.

Being the only Arabic site running for the competition and a representative of the region, Talasim.com was supported and financed by Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) and Royal Jordanian.

QRCE's Executive Director Mohammad Khawaja commended the talent of Arab young people and the potential they have in the technology field, pointing to headline-grabbing acquisition deals involving Jordanian websites recently.

Commenting on the developments, Khawaja said, "This achievement and the recent Yahoo!'s acquisition of Jordanian website maktoob.com highlight Jordan's lofty status on the technology map and the creativity of Jordanian youth."

Khawaja added, "These accomplishments would have never been translated into facts on the ground without the attention His Majesty King Abdullah II pays to the ITC sector with a view to enhance individual skills and ensure people's contribution to building a new knowledge-based economy that leads to achieving sustainable development."

Outlining the edge talasim.com enjoys vis-à-vis other Arabic sites, Hakim said the electronic services offered by the site are coupled with a humoristic and realistic approach to help Arab youth express themselves in a more spontaneous manner.

With the growth of the number of visitors to Arabic website, Hakim forecast that these sites' share in advertising revenues would increase, especially since they have a great technical potential that conventional channels lack. In addition, he said, web-based advertising allows control over ad campaigns that can be evaluated and re-adjusted during the process to yield the best results and achieve the goals of the campaign.
