UAE schools warned not to inflate book prices

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, September 29 - 2009 at 09:36

Private schools in the UAE have been warned not to charge more than the cover price for textbooks after parents complained of being overcharged, The National has reported. Despite a previous order by the ministry of education to display the sales price clearly on textbook covers, some schools had tried to hide the price printed on the back of the book to prevent parents from detecting the mark-up, Kholood al Qassimi, director of the curriculum department said. According to the ministry, the cost of a textbook must not exceed Dhs9.50.
