International Bank of Qatar supports annual youth road safety programme

In line with its commitment to a wide range of corporate social responsibility activities, International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) announced that it is serving as sponsor of the country's annual "Schools without Accidents" campaign and that it has allocated QR500,000 to support this initiative of the Government's Traffic and Patrols Department.

This campaign is part of a nationwide awareness drive to prevent road accidents. This is the second consecutive year that IBQ has sponsored the "Schools without Accidents" campaign.

A unique programme to raise awareness of the importance of road safety among secondary school students across Qatar, this initiative was launched within the framework of the "National Campaign for Road Accidents Prevention." Highlighting the success of this campaign, the Government announced earlier a drop in the number of accidents, injuries and deaths caused by road accidents.

George Nasra, Managing Director, IBQ, said:

"We are extremely pleased to announce our sponsorship of the annual 'Schools without Accidents' campaign and to provide our full support to this important initiative."

Nasra added, "Qatar has achieved unparalleled economic growth and diversification over the past several decades, providing unmatched opportunities for the country's youth to reach their full potential. Sadly, however, too many of our young people never have the chance to realise those opportunities as their lives are cut tragically short by preventable road accidents. We can and must do even more to reduce the number of traffic accidents and fatalities - especially among our youth."

"The significant cash donation we have provided to the 'Schools without Accidents' campaign, for the second consecutive year, underscores the importance all of us at IBQ place on corporate social responsibility," Nasra said. "Reaching out across the country through a wide range of educational, sporting and charitable initiatives, IBQ is determined to continue to contribute to the well-being of the local community, nurturing an environment of respect, care and trust."

"We are enormously grateful to IBQ for providing their support to the 'Schools without Accidents' campaign," said Brig. Muhammed Saa'd Al Kharji, Director of the Traffic Department. "This campaign targets primarily our local youth aiming at raising their understanding of the importance of traffic safety. Our youth constitute the human capital that is crucial for the socioeconomic development of our country. Our continued efforts fall in line with our role in protecting our citizens and their properties. This stems out of our commitment to our social and legal responsibilities in order to ensure safety and security to everyone. The Traffic and Patrols Department works hard to engage partners and endorsers that are representative of both the private and public sectors. We hope that IBQ's sponsorship would set an example for the others to follow so that we can spread the awareness throughout the various walks of our community."
