Dubai Financial Market performance increases by 14.5% in September

Dubai Financial Market overall performance increased by 14.5% to reach 2191.03 points the end of September 2009 compared to 1914.28 points at the end of August.
The value of shares traded during this month reached Dhs17.4bn, compared to Dhs12.2bn recorded during August, an increase by 42.7%. Number of shares traded increased by 33.1% to reach 9.4 billion shares during this month compared to 7.1 billion shares were traded during the August. Number of transactions executed during September 2009 increased by 23.5% to reach 168.4 thousand compared to 136.4 thousand deals carried out during the last month.
In terms of sectoral contribution to trading volumes, the real estate and construction sector ranked first in terms of the value of traded shares, to reach Dhs9.7bn, or 55.9% of the total value of shares traded in the market. Investment and financial services ranked second at Dhs3.4bn, or 19.6%, followed by the transportation sector to Dhs1.9bn, or 10.7%, and the banking sector amounted to Dhs1.2bn, or 7.1%. The insurance sector handled Dhs742m, or 4.3%, and utilities sector amounted Dhs316m, or 1.8%. Communications sector handled Dhs103m, or 0.6%, and the consumer stables and material sectors ranked last to reach Dhs2m and Dhs220 thousand respectively.
The value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this month reached Dhs3.931bn comprising 22.5% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached Dhs3.192bn which constitutes 18.3% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. Net institutional investment on the market reached Dhs739.8m during the period, as aggregate buy.
The value of shares bought by foreign investors during this month reached Dhs6.985bn comprising 40.1% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached Dhs6.383bn comprising 36.6% of the total value of stocks traded during the period. Net foreign investment on the market reached Dhs602m during the same period, as aggregate buy.
