A high delegation from Dubai Customs visits Thailand

Inline with the mutual cooperation and exchanging expertise among all customs departments and authorities across the world, a high delegation from Dubai Customs headed by H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed, Dubai Customs Director General visited Thai Customs yesterday Wednesday, September 30th, 2009.

In response to an invitation from Mr. Utid Tamwatin, Thai Customs Director General to visit the Thai Customs, the visit will last for two days.

Taking into account the fact that Thai Customs is a strategic partner to Dubai, during the visit, methods of furthering trade relations with Thailand as well as opportunities of exchanging expertise in the field of customs domain were negotiated. Meanwhile, the delegation visited the General Department at Thai Customs, Savannah Airport in Bangkok and Laem Chabang Sea Port in Pattaya in Thailand.

Dubai Customs delegation included Mr. Yousef Al Sahlawi, Executive Director of Policies and Legislations Division at Dubai Customs as well as Mr. Abbas Makki, Director of External Relations.

The Dubai Customs delegation learnt about the management techniques implemented at the different Thai Customs centers especially setting work strategies and quality management and increasing clients' satisfaction.

Moreover, the delegation inquired about the Thai expertise of the unified administration among all customs departments, the Immigration department and Environmental Control Department so that opinions and experiences on work methodologies and resources and crisis management can be exchanged as well as means of setting strategic plans and translating their requirements into practical and achievable objectives.

Dubai Customs Director General stressed:
"This visit is inline with reinforcing relations with the Department's strategic partners and exchanging expertise with them in order to share the benefit and develop each one's work."


H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed gave a brief presentation on the modern implemented management techniques at Dubai Customs through which he demonstrated mechanisms of setting strategies and work goals and how these goals can be translated into policies and practical procedures in measurable executive plans.

Furthermore, Dubai Customs Director General highlighted the strategy of encouraging clients' voluntary commitment, the benefits of the adopted clients' accreditation system by the Department and the facilitations provided for the committed clients besides drawing a comparison between similar systems at the Thai Customs.

H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed illustrated the electronic system utilized by Dubai Customs to measure employees' performance and its advantages as it enables employees to set applicable and measurable goals and assess their performance through these goals they integrated themselves. He pointed out that the system increases career satisfaction which reflects on the work atmosphere positively and constructively.

It's worth mentioning that Mr. Utid Tamwatin, Thai Customs Director General visited Dubai Customs last February and commended the Department for the high level of development it enjoys in different domains and aspects. At the end of the visit, Mr. Tamwatin invited H.E. Ahmed Butti Ahmed to visit the Thai Customs in order to further relations and accomplish more cooperation.
