Dow to showcase leading business portfolios at Petrochem Arabia 2009 in Saudi Arabia

Dow Chemical in the Middle East, a leading science and technology company, has recently announced that it will showcase its leading products and innovative solutions at Saudi Arabia's premier international petrochemical and refining conference and exhibition, Petrochem Arabia 2009, scheduled to be held at Dhahran International Exhibition Centre (DIEC) from October 04 - 06, 2009.

The Dow exhibit, located at blocks K07 and K08, will feature Dow business solutions for the Saudi paints and coatings industry, building and infrastructure development, and some of Dow's most innovative market-facing business units: Dow Water & Process Solutions, Dow Oil & Gas, Dow Wire & Cable, Household & Personal Care and Automotive.

Commenting on Dow's participation at Petrochem Arabia 2009, Zuhair Allawi, Commercial Director for Dow Chemical in India, Middle East & Africa (IMEA) said,

"Dow's presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is characterized by landmark joint venture partnerships and opportunities that are helping to transform the Kingdom into a global petrochemicals powerhouse. But equally important is the fact that our highly customized, customer-focused technology solutions have the potential to add real, sustainable value to key industries that support and drive Saudi Arabia's ambitious growth plans."


Mr. Allawi will be a featured keynote speaker on the first full day of the conference at two separate events. During a panel discussion on "Meeting the Challenges Ahead in Saudi Arabia's Petrochemical Industry", Mr. Allawi will share his expert opinions on fully leveraging the Kingdom's strategic location to secure future growth, the advantages and disadvantages of diversifying product portfolios to include more complex and specialty chemicals products, and ensuring petrochemical product portfolios match export demand. He will moderate and present during an afternoon lecture session on the topic of "Technology, the Environment and Sustainability".

Dow has been present in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for over thirty years, beginning in 1976, when Dow established a distribution partnership with industrial conglomerate E.A. Juffali & Brothers. Since then, Saudi Arabia has played a critical role in shaping Dow's business approach in the Middle East region.

Dow's presence in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia began with two subsequent joint ventures with E.A. Juffali & Brothers, Arabian Chemical Company Ltd., manufacturing STYROFOAM * brand insulation (Jeddah) and latex (Jubail). In 2007, Dow and Saudi Aramco signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the construction, ownership and operation of a world-scale chemicals and plastics production complex in Saudi Arabia, named the Ras Tanura Integrated Project (RTIP).
