Cancer doctors and healthcare professionals at MPH have come up with comprehensive plans and systems in support of 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month', which is celebrated annually around the world each October.

MPH recommends that persons interested in visiting the hospital during its cancer awareness drive take appointments in advance; however, walk-ins will also be welcome.

During the course of the month at MPH, free breast examinations will be conducted by Consultant Surgeon - Dr. Rajyashree Narayanankutty, on 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th of October 2009. A 'Prostrate Cancer Awareness Week' will also be held from 1-7th October, with a special prostrate cancer consultation day with Senior Consultant Urologist - Dr. Sadiq Lala on the 1st of October. Special discounts will also be provided to persons visiting the hospital for diagnostic tests.

"It is common knowledge that cancer is one of the most morbidly serious diseases, harming people all over the globe today. When talking about any type of cancer, we at MPH emphasise prevention, as well as early detection; which refers to lowering the risk of getting the disease rather than completely eliminating the risk of the disease. This is why it is crucial to stay up to date on periodic check ups and examinations, while also doing your best to avoid all other preventable risk factors,"

elucidates Gary Dorahy, Country Manager - OMPC and Hospital Director, MPH.

Through the celebration of 'Breast Cancer Awareness Month', MPH aims to raise awareness on the importance of early detection and regular cancer check ups in the Sultanate. Furthermore, doctors throughout the globe prophesise that having a regular check up does not prevent cancer, but early detection has been known to save, or at the least prolong many a life.
