Deadline for PepsiCo's Tomooh scholarships extended

The deadline for PepsiCo International's Tomooh scholarships in Jordan has been extended till October 10th 2009 in order to give more students the chance to benefit from PepsiCo's Tomooh $200,000 scholarship fund.

The grants are part of the Tomooh education program, launched by PepsiCo International in cooperation with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) in Jordan in 2007 in an effort to enable talented and economically challenged youth to start or continue their university education by providing them with the necessary financial backing needed.

"Through Tomooh scholarships, PepsiCo contributes to shaping tomorrow's leaders and to build a better future for Jordanian youth. We are also playing our part to support Jordan's national educational development priorities."

said Sufian Al-Salman, Human Resources & Corporate Affairs Director-PepsiCo International Jordan.

"By extending the Tomooh scholarships application deadline, we ensure to provide educational opportunities to as many young Jordanians as possible who may have missed the first deadline or for any other reason could not apply till now."

"Over the past two years PepsiCo and JOHUD's collaboration saw us grant scholarships to over 350 exceptional students who with the help of the program have been provided with the opportunity to continue their higher education goals," said JOHUD's Executive Director Farah Daghistani. "There are many good students who do not have the financial means to realize their full potential, PepsiCo. International's Tomooh program which is being implemented in Jordan by JOHUD's Goodwill campaign is fundamental in helping develop these young students, which in turn benefits our community."

By extending the application deadline to October 10 PepsiCo. International and JOHUD are ensuring that all students who wish to submit their applications but may previously have been unable to do so, can now, therefore providing the largest possible number of students with the opportunity to apply and win one of the scholarships.

PepsiCo International's Tomooh scholarships are open to all students in Jordan aged 15-22.

Students may apply through JOHUD over 50 community centers located around the Kingdom or through JOHUD's headquarters located in Al Madina Al Munawara Street.

PepsiCo International's Tomooh scholarship program was launched for the third consecutive year in Jordan on May 17th, with this year being particularly special for Tomooh as previous Tomooh scholarship recipients will have the chance to re-apply for the scholarship if they managed to maintain high academic standing and are still in need of financial assistance in order to continue their education.

The Tomooh Education Project, launched by PepsiCo International, is a scholarship program in the Middle East dedicated to underprivileged students looking to further their education.

The program comes from PepsiCo International's 1 million dollar commitment to the Arab world which has been set aside in order to aid disadvantaged communities, based on individual needs.

Introduced in Lebanon in 2006 as an annual scholarship program, Tomooh was then rolled out to Jordan and Egypt, with the program now in its 4th year in Lebanon, and 3rd year in both Jordan and Egypt.
