SKMC is owned and operated by Seha, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The symposium, accredited for four hours of Continuous Medical Education (CME), is coordinated by Dr. Sherif Bakir, Cardiology Consultant at SKMC. It comprises of different presentations be chaired by SKMC Cardiologists. The scientific presentations will cover all essential topics in the field of cardiovascular diseases risk factors definitions and management.
Dr. Norbert Augustin, Chair of Cardiac Sciences Institute, praised the Cardiac Sciences Team for organizing this upcoming symposium. He pointed out that "what makes this symposium unique is that a wide scope of modifiable cardiovascular risk factors will be presented and discussed in depth. We are proud to organize this symposium as part of our obligation towards the community of physicians."
Dr. Augustin added, "SKMC Cardiac Sciences Institute is willing to continuously organize Cardiovascular-related conferences, symposiums and activities. It is our department mission to encourage and promote scientific and medical education programs in addition to providing advanced cardiac services at SKMC that meets internationally recognized standards of excellence to the residents of the UAE."
Dr. Sharif Bakir said:
"The symposium is divided into seven different presentations by cardiology consultants at SKMC about hypertension, smoking cessation, the global overview on cardiovascular risk management, dyslipidemia, obesity and anxiety."
Dr. Wael Al Mahmeed, Head of Adult Cardiology Department, stated that "The symposium attendees will be able to recognize tobacco hazards with emphasis on cardiovascular risks and review the ways of tobacco cessation; identify diabetes as a cardiovascular disease equivalent; and discuss management of cardiovascular disease risk factors, coronary artery disease and heart failure. They will also be able to provide insight on the importance of stress as a risk factor for coronary artery disease and provide tools which will help clinicians to identity individuals at risk and give appropriate management."
He said, "I believe this symposium will be well received by the audience. This unique and important symposium illustrates SKMC's commitment to state-of-the-art treatment and promotion of CME."

This event is an accredited learning activity as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and has been designated for 4 hours of CME by Health Authority Abu Dhabi and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
