Finance consultant Paul Wilmott to speak in Middle East on risk management, derivatives and modeling

Described by Nassim Taleb, mathematician and author of the bestseller The Black Swan, as the smartest quant in the world, Dr Wilmott is considered one of the most esteemed financial consultants, specializing in derivatives, risk management and quantitative finance.

Dr Wilmott's talk is titled A Little Thought Goes A Long Way - Risk Management, Derivatives and Modeling, and will offer unique insights into risk, quantitative trading models and the reliance of mathematics in finance.

The presentation is free of charge and takes place from 6 - 7.30pm at the following locations:

• October 20 - Dubai, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC)
• October 21 - Abu Dhabi, Sheraton Khalidiya Hotel
• October 22 - Kuwait City, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce

The evening will also feature an overview of the Certificate in Quantitative Finance (CQF), a six month part-time course designed to provide high-level training for individuals working in, or intending to move into, derivatives, development, quantitative trading or risk management.

Dr Wilmott will argue that quants' lack of real-world experience and blind belief in mathematical modeling is a dangerous combination. The presentation will outline some of the common mistakes that quants keep making and show how these can be rectified by using relatively simple mathematics.
