Sodic and Solidere showcase first Eastown and Westown Neighbourhoods in Cityscape Dubai 2009

Egyptian real estate developer Sodic and developer Soldiere International are currently participating in the Cityscape Dubai exhibition, taking place between the 5th and 8th of October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Sodic and Solidere International are showcasing several joint projects, including the first developments to be launched in Eastown and Westown, two large scale mixed use city centres located in Cairo's eastern and western suburbs.

Designed by some of the world's leading master planners and architects, Eastown and Westown are destined to be the urban hubs of Cairo's growing eastern and western suburbs respectively. Eastown and Westown will provide residential, commercial, retail and hospitality services and entertainment amenities for the fast growing populations of Cairo's suburbs estimated to reach three to 4m each in the very near future.

Sodic and Solidere International are currently launching the first developments in these two city centres, which include residential developments such as Forty West, The Courtyard in Westown as well as the Espanade in Eastown. The company is also launching The Polygon, the first business park in Westown's business district.

Sodic and Solidere will be unveiling several other exciting developments over the coming months, and these include:

Forty West, Westown Cairo


Forty West, the first neighbourhood to be launched in Westown, is an exclusive development designed by renowned architects Machado & Silvetti that combines Mediterranean spirit, international design, modern Egyptian style and state-of-the-art finishing. Built around a large central piazza, Forty West includes 180 high-end apartments, several gourmet restaurants and lounges, numerous shops, a flagship art gallery, a 50-room Angsana boutique hotel managed by Banyan Tree and a 7,000 square meter Class A office building. Forty West interiors are designed by up-and-coming Egyptian designers Eklego. Construction of Forty West will commence in December 2009 and delivery is scheduled to start in 2013.

The Polygon, Westown Cairo


Designed by award-winning London-based architects Wilkinson Eyre, The Polygon is the first business park to be launched in Westown's business district. The Polygon consists of a series of Class A office buildings with state-of-the-art facilities, a business hotel, a conference centre and a high-spec serviced apartment complex with a total built up area of 88,000 square meters. With a range of office spaces to suit all types of businesses, The Polygon is the first business park to be integrated into a mixed-use environment, giving residents ample choices for entertainment facilities and quick getaways. Construction of The Polygon will commence in December 2009 and delivery is scheduled to start in 2013.

The Courtyard by Shahira H. Fahmy, Westown

Cairo
One of the most exclusive addresses in Westown, The Courtyard is an iconic piece of contemporary architecture, including 28 luxurious apartment, lofts, penthouses and interlocking duplexes, set over a total built up area of 9,000 square meters. Designed by Shahira H. Fahmy Architects, The Courtyard is inspired by the 19th-century courtyard apartment buildings of the Egyptian Belle Epoque, which included a shaded central garden accessible only to residents. This central courtyard gives each home a unique view of its lush landscaping, hanging gardens and water features. Delivery of The Courtyard is scheduled to start in 2013.

The Esplanade, Eastown Cairo


The Esplanade is a high-end residential neighbourhood set amongst the greenery of Eastown's residential quarter, along the Green Spine consisting of tranquil parks, water features and pathways for joggers, walkers and cyclists. Including over 200 luxury apartments, The Esplanade was designed exclusively by Nabil Gholam Architects, one of the biggest award-winning names in the region. The apartments' striking design features are inspired by Egyptian tradition, with a special emphasis on fresh air and natural lights. With a total built up area of 45,000 square meters, The Esplanade is a short distance away from Cairo International Airport, The American University of Cairo and Eastown's shopping landmarks Galleria Mall and Wist Al-Balad. Construction of The Courtyard will commence in March 2010 and delivery is scheduled to start in 2013.

The Retail Malls at Eastown and Westown


Sodic and Solidere will also be developing two large retail malls in Eastown and Westown. Set to become two of the most prestigious malls in these new cities, the spacious malls will feature indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing for a different lifestyle for clients as well as providing environmentally friendly solutions that reduce reliance on air-condition while benefiting from Egypt's year-round moderate climate.

Infrastructure Work to start for Eastown and Westown


The Infrastructure work for Eastown and Westown has been kicked off. These large scale projects represent over 3.5m square metres of built up area, and the intricate infrastructure plans are being implemented.

Eastown is built on over 850,000 square meters of land, has a built up area (BUA) of approximately 1.1m square meters and will have an estimated population of 25,000. With an estimated EGP 10m to be invested over the next ten years, this urban centre to the east of Cairo includes over 1,900 new residential units, over 1,600 office units and over 2,100 retail outlets. It will also include up to five hotels, providing over 800 rooms and serviced apartments.

About Machado & Silvetti
Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Machado & Silvetti Associates have over 20 years experience in architecture and urban design. They have worked on projects ranging from museums to residential buildings, and are recipients of numerous awards. They have designed the gateway complex to Eastown, adjacent to the AUC campus that includes a high rise hotel and several office and residential buildings, as well as Forty West, the first neighbourhood to be launched in Westown, which will feature residential, retail and commercial space.

Nabil Gholam was a senior partner at Ricardo Boller's Taller de Arquitectura. After seven years working in France, Spain, China and the United States, he set up NG Architecture & Planning in Beirut in 1994 and Barcelona in 2006. Gholam has designed several residential buildings that open onto the Green Spine in Eastown. He has also designed a residential complex that sets the benchmark for contemporary living in the heart of the residential Westown district.
