In a sign of improving regional economic confidence, UAE companies are increasingly returning to pre-recession activities such as corporate golf days, in a bid to get closer to their high value customers, it was revealed today by an industry source.

During the past year locally-based firms had all but stopped spending on corporate entertainment, and team building exercises, in the wake of the global economic downturn.

However, signs of financial recovery in the region have led companies to start reactivating their corporate entertainment budgets, and take to the golf course once more.

"In the past month we have seen a surge in interest for our corporate days," confirmed Thomas Rubi, General Manager of The Els Club in Dubai Sports City.

"Company executives have realised the value of getting out on the golf course, and away from the office, with their work colleagues and clients. It really is a great way to get to know each other, while learning to function better as a team,"

he said.

The Els Club offers an 18-hole championship course which has been designed to challenge both the experienced and more amateur player.

"On behalf of Women's Golf Dubai, I would like to thank The Els Club for an outstanding golf day last week. From the giveaways, to the shirts, the facilities, the professional assistance, the catering services, the prizes and not to mention how welcoming the staff was. This has got to be one of the most well arranged and organised events I have ever had the privilege of playing." said Sandra Meyer of the Women's Golf Dubai.

Golf clinics can also be set up prior to play where the club's coaches are on hand to give personalised advice on long games, chipping and putting. Golf carts with GPS, refreshments, photo mementos and prizes are also included in corporate day packages.
