UAE signs Air Services MoU with Cyprus

The United Arab Emirates represented by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) signed an Air Services Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Cyprus on 09th October 2009 in Nicosia, to increase flights between the two countries.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Omar Bin Ghaleb, Deputy Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Mr. Michael constantinides, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communications and works, Cyprus. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation, Sharjah Civil Aviation, Emirates airline and Etihad Airways, attended the meeting.

According to the MoU both parties agreed to increase (9) weekly frequencies for UAE designated airlines

Both delegations agreed during the meeting to modify article 3 in the Air Services Agreement signed in 7th December 1999 related to Airlines designation to allow multiple designation and they agreed to increase the number of the designated carriers up to three. As consequence, the UAE Delegation designated, in addition to Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, as UAE national Airlines.
