- PRESS RELEASE
DP World's new marine terminal development at Callao, Peru has been honoured by a visit from top officials from the UAE and Peru, including His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Earlier in the day, HH Sheikh Abdullah, UAE officials and DP World representatives met with the President of the Republic, Alan Garcia Pérez, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio García Belaúnde. The purpose of the meetings was to discuss commercial relations and investments between both countries, as well as the achievements of the Peruvian economy internationally.
The new terminal at Muelle Sur - Callao, in Lima, the capital of Peru, is set to open early next year, a year ahead of schedule. The concession was granted to DP World Callao in July 2006 and construction works started in April 2008. Around 98% of the reclamation works have been completed to date, consisting of the yard and main stacking area.
DP World Callao will be a modern 650-metre-long quay Terminal with two 325-metre moorings able to receive Super Post-Panamax vessels. Dredging to a -14 metre depth from the original average depth of 10 metre will allow the facility to handle some of the biggest container vessels in the market. By the end of the year, the first gantry cranes and yard cranes are due to be commissioned, besides other port vehicles and state-of-the-art equipment. The terminal will have an annual capacity of around 850,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent container units) in the first phase, and a maximum of around 1.4 million TEUs, in the second phase.
