- PRESS RELEASE
As part of its mission to prepare young people in Qatar and the Arabian Gulf region to become future leaders and innovators, Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development announces the launch of its 'Discover Education City' recruitment event campaign.
In addition this year, Education City universities will participate in the GETEX fair in Dubai. The events will raise awareness of the academic programs offered at its universities and the Academic Bridge Program, the admissions process and the vast resources available at Qatar's Education City.
A priority of Qatar Foundation is to promote excellence in education in the region, and Education City is its flagship project . Education City offers a synergistic environment where students can share facilities, cooperate on research projects, and forge relationships with businesses and other organizations in the public and private sectors.
It is home to branch campuses of six internationally renowned universities: Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar, Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Texas A&M University at Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar and Northwestern University in Qatar. Each one of the universities in Education City has been hand-selected to offer its top programs to students in the Gulf region.
The announcement of the 'Discover Education City' launch in Qatar and the region was made during a press conference held at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar yesterday.
Speaking at the press conference Dennis Roberts, Ph.D., Associate Vice-President for Faculty and Student Services at Qatar Foundation. said, "All we have to do is to look around us and it becomes quickly evident that the resources Qatar is placing in education go far beyond that available elsewhere."
Dr. Roberts continued, "We are taking responsibility to challenge all students to strive for their greatest potential."
Qatar Foundation and Education City's branch campuses have spent much time over the past years working with school counselors in Qatar and the region providing the tools, training and support necessary to foster student learning through focused programs and workshops. Programs have also been developed in cooperation with the universities to develop the students and prepare them for the rigorous academic challenges they will face at Education City.
The curricula and grading standards at the universities at Education City meet the high standards of the degrees delivered at the home campus in the United States.
Bryan Zerbe, Director of Admissions at Carnegie Mellon Qatar addressed the concept of the holistic admissions process at Education City. "All of the campuses in Education City seek serious, motivated students who want to pursue their university studies in a highly innovative academic community. Education City offers an educational environment like no other: with big-name universities offering small classes, research opportunities, avenues to exciting internships and careers, and a full spectrum of student clubs, intramural teams, and other opportunities to get involved in the life of the campus."
The program in each city includes school visits, a counselor event, and a college fair. Representatives from all six of the universities will be at the events to explain about admission requirements and how applications should be prepared in order to maximize the opportunity for admission. Current students and alumni will provide first-hand accounts of their own special Education City experience.
After the launch event in Doha, the event will travel to Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Morocco.
