DWC students present four workshops at 7th Annual Middle East Emergency Medical Services Conference

The DWC students presented four advanced life support workshops to an audience of about 40 doctors, nurses and other health care professionals from the GCC. These student-lead workshops have become a favorite feature at the conferences in the UAE over the last few years.

The conference organizers were very pleased with the standard that the students have managed to attain, and the display of local education in action.

"It was amazing to see young students running a workshop of this level," said Bradley McWilliams, Emergency Medical Staff at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital. DWC students are preparing for their international learning experience in USA, where they will undertake the final examinations together with their American counterparts. This is the ultimate opportunity to assess the comparative standards of education in the UAE with the USA. 11 students will be going to Pennsylvania where they will also work in an Emergency Medical Service with American preceptors.

"We learned so much by participating in the conference through running the four advanced life support workshops,"

commented Moslem Hussain, a 3rd year paramedic student.

The conference was also attended by 16 first year paramedic students from Abu Dhabi Men's college paramedic program. Plans are already afoot for future collaboration between the two departments.

The Higher Colleges of Technology Advance Life Support Paramedic Program is sponsored in Dubai by the Dubai Police General Headquarters and the Center of Ambulance Services. In Abu Dhabi, the program is sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Police Ambulance department.
