Statistics Center Abu Dhabi signs deal to use latest technologies of Intermec

Statistics Center-Abu Dhabi announced today the deal signed to buy the latest wireless handheld devices CN50, provided by the international US Company Intermec, in partnership with the UAE based Computer Networks Systems (CNS).

By introducing and incorporating this cutting-edge latest technologies, the Center takes a pioneering step nationally as well as regionally in the field of information technology advancement and third-generation mobile computing usage, that will definitely add value and make a difference in the whole statistical process at large, and may ensure accurate statistical data entry during data collection stage as well as storage, data compilation and analysis as per the highest international standards, that will therefore facilitate the job of statistical researchers, surveyors and professionals who will adapt the latest technological features of these devices in conducting various types of statistical surveys, prominent among which is the upcoming national project for the General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments (2010).

In this regard, Statistics Center-Abu Dhabi asserted in an official statement that this pioneering initiative came in consistence with the overall Center's mission, vision and objectives as well as strategic plan that sets success as its aspired goals and pursues excellence as its work methodology, taking best advantage of the advanced technologies as tools to serve the entire statistical process as a whole and thereby the efforts put forth to achieve sustainable development in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which require the provision of relevant, reliable and high quality official statistics to policy-makers as well as to the business and the entire public community.

Furthermore, SCAD's strategy also seeks to contribute effectively to developing the skills of its human resources to enhance efficiency and productivity and achieve excellence and quality in performance.

It is worth mentioning that the selection process of this sophisticated handheld devices were the result of careful research and specialized studies that been done extensively in the local and the international market as well, to acquire the world best-in-class latest technologies. The CN50 device is characterized by its efficiency; ease usage, high speed, environmentally friendly, It is indeed small in size, light in weight, resistant to shocks and water, with built-in GPS system, that makes it possible to locate enumerators during statistical surveys.

The device also has a two-dimensional ID Bar Code reader system to ensure accuracy in data entry, built-in camera to facilitate the process of documenting statistical information when needed, memory card with high capacity for data storage, as well as a battery that can work and last for more than 6 continuous hours without having to be recharged. The device supports a wide range of software solutions and applications in both Arabic and English and is also compatible with advanced special printers to print high-quality stickers that are characterized by strong adhesion, resistance to outdoor environmental factors, such as high temperature and humidity.

As such, the CN50 wireless mobile computing handheld device is considered to be the best solution to be used in the general census of population, buildings and establishments national project as well as many others important economical surveys.
