"As the national carrier of the Kingdom, I am delighted to announce today that we will become the official carrier of the Bahrain National Team as they continue with their 2010 World Cup bid. With the whole country rallying behind the team for their match in Wellington we are excited to be operating a special flight to carry the team and its supporters to New Zealand,"

said Mr. Majali.

"Football is arguably the favorite sport of Bahrainis and something we are committed to supporting at all levels of the game, from the grassroots up to the national team."

"The target of breaking into world football cup finals is exciting not just for the players but for every ardent football fan in the country; we at Gulf Air are looking forward to helping the team achieve this goal. I wish the team all the very best in the forthcoming matches."

Renown for its direct network to its non-stop flights schedules, Gulf Air covers the Middle East, the Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

The airline's business strategy is to re-fleet itself over the next five years to further strengthen its presence. It recently signed a deal with Boeing worth nearly $6bn to purchase up to 24 Boeing 787 aircraft, and another deal with Airbus for 35 aircraft, including A320s and A330s.
