Affordability of products and accessibility to the event are also key drivers of high sales this year, according to JP Nambiar, Jumbo's Head of Retail.

Jumbo has invested Dhs2m in promotions at the consumer electronics show, with everything from price reductions to give-aways and raffles, in a bid to overcome the challenging market conditions faced by retailers today. Combined with decreasing laptop prices from manufacturers, Jumbo has seen a new market open up as many consumers now find home electronics products which were previously out of their reach are now more affordable.

Even access to Gitex Shopper has become easier with the new Metro and feeder busses bringing more people to the Dubai Airport Expo, resulting in a changing demographic of visitors to Gitex Shopper. Previous years saw large numbers of business men and ABC1 segment visitors, but thanks to the increased accessibility both to the venue and also to electronic goods, more value seeking families are visiting Gitex Shopper this year, making up as much as 50% of total visitor numbers at the Jumbo stand.

JP Nambiar, Head of Retail, Jumbo Electronics comments:

"This is a tough year for retailers. To come through this and prosper retailers have to be creative, which is why we have increased our promotional activities at Shopper this year. But its not just about offers - you also need to look at your customers and their needs.

"It is great to see the electronics market opening up to a new type of consumer - with the increased affordability of products in general, along with the fantastic promotions at Shopper, we are seeing an increase in value seeking families visiting this year buying their first laptops. We are delighted with the response from consumers at Shopper this year and we look forward to continuing success over the remaining days."

Visitor numbers at the Jumbo stand have been increasing 30% day-on-day. Products including laptops, LCD screens and Smartphones have seen high demand from consumers this year.

Jumbo Electronics is exhibiting at Gitex Shopper, 17 - 24 October, in the Central and West Hall at the Dubai Airport Expo. The opening hours are 11am-10pm, Sunday-Thursday and 3pm-10pm on Friday. It is the most eagerly anticipated technology retailing event in the Middle East, and attracts an international audience.
