- PRESS RELEASE
This coming Sunday, October 25, 2009, marks the start of the new winter timetable at Munich Airport. For the period up to March 27, 2010, airlines have booked slots for approximately 154,000 take-offs and landings.
One of the highlights of the coming winter flight timetable is the new flight to Muscat, the capital of Oman, which will be served three times a week by Oman Air, a newcomer to Munich Airport. A weekly departure to the island paradise of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean marks the return of Air Mauritius to Munich. It will operate this new service with a modern Airbus A340 long-haul airliner.
Easyjet is expanding the range of destinations it offers from Munich. The UK-based airline will be flying to Manchester for the first time this winter, offering four flights a week. In addition, the airline is increasing its service to London Gatwick from one to three daily departures. SunExpress has also announced a substantial rise in the number of departures to Istanbul and Izmir, adding a total of five new flights a week to these two Turkish cities. A newcomer in Munich is Central Connect Airlines, which will fly twice a week to Ostrava, the second-biggest city in the Czech Republic.
Lufthansa will be flying its Business Jet three times a week to the Egyptian capital of Cairo and four times a week to Tel Aviv. While Lufthansa is adding an extra daily flight to Bilbao, in Spain, bringing the total to three, it is reducing the frequency of services on other European routes. As in recent years, the long-haul destinations Montreal, in Canada, and Washington will be removed from the timetable for the winter season.
The flights to Brussels carried out by Lufthansa's partner Brussels Airlines will be handled in the future by Lufthansa itself. This winter Air Dolomiti will be flying twice a day to the vacation city of Rimini instead of four times a week, as in the past. Airberlin has taken over all of the Italian destinations of TUIfly. Spanair's services to Bilbao and Valencia have been cancelled.
