This important appointment comes close on the heels of the UAE having secured the right to host the Irena (International Renewable Energy Agency) headquarters here and the fast-developing Masdar City where alternative energy is expected to play a very significant role in its residents' day-to-day life.

ATCUAE President Mohammed Ben Sulayem who is currently attending the FIA General Assembly in Paris as its Vice President, hailed the ATCUAE's appointment on the commission as a "big win for the country and worldwide recognition for the UAE's growing role in the alternative energy sector."

"The ATCUAE is playing its part in support of the government's initiatives on alternative and sustainable energies and indeed it is a matter of great pride for us to have been elected on this prestigious commission and work in conjunction with countries like Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Japan and Switzerland to name a few.

"Our work on this commission vis-à-vis motor sport will cover areas such as solar, hybrid and other alternative energies," he concluded.
The FIA General Assembly continues on Friday where a new President will be elected to replace outgoing incumbent Max Mosley.
