Bernie Ecclestone, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Formula One Group, said, "LG is a leader in its field. It pioneers stylish, technologically advanced products whilst delivering innovation and excellence in a premium package, which is exactly what Formula 1, is all about. LG is a great fit for our brand."
With Abu Dhabi brand new to the Championship calendar, the milestone event will attract huge numbers of tourists and visitors to the UAE, significantly raising international media awareness of the region. Abu Dhabi will be setting the precedent for an event of this size in the Middle East, placing it among the ranks of Monaco and Singapore. As Official Data Processor of Formula 1, LG will be identified and credited on the official 2009 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix live timing service and in the associated timing and data TV graphics.
Dermot Boden, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) of LG Electronics, stated:
"This is a great sponsorship for LG. Formula One racing is one of the most dynamic sports in the world, relying on leading-edge technologies and continually pushing the boundaries of technological and engineering excellence. LG has a similar focus on innovation and technological leadership. This, alongside access to a global audience, provides clear synergies for us."
The Global Partnership between Formula 1 and LG Electronics extends across all Formula 1 races, taking place across five continents.
"This partnership, in addition to supporting one of the world's most exciting events taking place here in the UAE, exemplifies the standard with which we develop our latest technology. The fast-paced nature of this event further ties in with our hi-fi technology and the speed with which we continue to progress. We are looking forward to seeing how we can work with Formula 1 in the future," said Mr. H. S. Paik, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
"Sponsoring Formula One and securing the title of A Global Partner of Formula 1 is a tremendous honour for LG Electronics. We believe this will further strengthen LG's association with world class events and enable us as a technology innovator to increase our reach to global audience," added Paik.
The race weekend will commence at the Yas Marina Circuit on the newly opened Yas Island in Abu Dhabi from October 30th, with the race taking place on Sunday November 1st.
