Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Al Qasimi presents certificates to participants of Nanotechnology course at Advanced Studies Institute of RAK- CAM

The three- day intensive short course on Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology organised by the Advanced Studies Institute of the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAK- CAM) concluded at the American University of Ras Al Khaimah here Monday evening.
"New developments and advanced research in nanomaterials and nanotechnology are redefining the frontiers of materials science, necessitating rapid and effective approaches for the education and training of diverse scientists, engineers, and graduate students. RAK- CAM recently launched its Advanced Studies Institute (ASI) to provide education and training in the cutting edge research of advanced materials in the region and beyond," Prof Samy El-Shal added.
The three- day course was aimed at enabling the participants gain knowledge about the fundamental principles, properties and applications of nanomaterials in a wide range of fields such as energy, petrochemicals, hydrocarbon processing, environmental remediation, and water purification.
The classes were conducted by an eminent panel including Prof. Anthony K. Cheetham, Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of RAK- CAM and Professor of Materials Science at the University of Cambridge, and Prof. Joydeep Dutta, Director of Nanotechnology Centre, The Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok.
Prof Samy El-Shal stated that RAK-CAM will be organizing the second International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM-2010) in Ras Al Khaimah during the period of 21-23 February, 2010.
IWAM-2010 will focus on Nanomaterials and Nanocatalysis for Energy and Environmental Applications, Materials for Solar Energy, Hydrocarbon Processing, Water Purification, Energy Storage and Environmental Remediation.

About RAK- CAM:The Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAK- CAM) was founded under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, in late 2007. RAK- CAM is envisioned to become a flagship for advanced materials science research in the Middle East and to provide educational and training opportunities for new scientists and engineers at the regional and international levels
The RAK- CAM building, which will be completed in 2010, will be a flagship centre for materials science research in the region and will have advanced research facilities including an integrated state-of-the art system for materials synthesis and preparation, analysis, testing and characterization, together with an advanced research computing capability.
