Kingdom of Bahrain's Pavilion looks for investment opportunities and ways of cooperation in the IT and communications field

As part of their participation in Gitex 2009 in Dubai, the eGovernment Authority and private sector companies present in the Bahrain Pavilion are seeking foreign investment opportunities and partnerships in the ICT field, in line with Bahrain's Vision 2030 objective of attaining economic sustainability.

In this regard, the Bahraini companies met with companies from Singapore to discuss ways to strengthen cooperative ties in ICT and identify possible options for both parties and to exchange experience and expertise on IT.

In reference to the meeting, Mr. Hamad Hussain Abdul Aal, CEO of Ascentech, one of the exhibitors in the Bahrain Pavilion, said:

"The Bahrain Pavilion has been very successful thus far, and our participation with the eGovernment Authority has helped us promote the Kingdom of Bahrain as a leading investment center in the Middle East in the ICT field, by demonstrating the special elements the kingdom's has and to identify the Bahraini market to other countries as a potential market for products and international services."


Gulf Future Business, Al-Nadeem Information Technology (IT), Micro-center, Oxid IT services, Bin Hindi Informatics, World Computer W.L.L, Hi-tech, and ITMAM participate at Gitex 2009 in the Bahrain Pavilion, in addition to the eGovernment Authority.

Exhibitors from the private sector in the Bahrain Pavilion this year, including Bahraini ICT companies, were directly supported by a joint initiative between Tamkeen and Bahrain ICT Suppliers Association (BISTA) - a consortium of ICT companies, which operates under the umbrella of the Bahrain Internet Society.

About eGovernment Authority Bahrain:
The eGovernment Authority (eGA) was established by Royal Decree 69 in August 2007. Reporting to the Cabinet, the eGA aims to coordinate and execute e-government initiatives in line with the strategies, plans, and programs set by the Supreme Council for Information Communication Technology (SCICT), headed by HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The eGA's role entails everything from proposing overall policies and appropriate legislations to the SCICT for approval to overseeing the execution of the approved SCICT programs. This includes suggesting required IT programs, facilitating communications and services between all government entities, opening new e-channels for e-government services, and offering technical and knowledge-based support to the ministries and other government entities.

Currently, the eGA is working on executing the plans contained within Bahrain's e-government strategy to achieve the ambitious Bahraini e-initiatives, as well as offering 200 basic governmental services electronically via various communication channels within 3 years to all citizens, residents, and businesses of Bahrain.
