Eng. Ibrahim Saleh, Vice President of AL-Kharafi Group, the owner of Port Ghalib Resort Company, said:
"To host the Formula 2 Continental Cup 2009 is fantastic news for Port Ghalib and for our world class, award winning marina. It's a real testament to the resort that this will be the second time we've hosted this high speed event. As one of the world's newest luxury locations, Port Ghalib really is the perfect place to have a race of this calibre. I'm looking forward to seeing the speed boats in action."
The race will make use of Port Ghalib's world class marina which will allow the F2 Continental Cup to get round the unaccommodating tidal movements throughout the Red Sea for prolonged power boat racing. When not competing, Port Ghalib will be accommodating racers and guests in its five star luxury hotels, the Intercontinental The Palace, the Crowne Plaza Sahara Sands and the Crowne Plaza Oasis.
Mr Saleh commented further that, "Speed racing fans will be able to enjoy our vast range of activities when not watching the racing, whether scuba diving on some of the world's best dive sites or partying in any one of the top quality restaurants and bars throughout the resort."
Port Ghalib is serviced by Marsa Alam International Airport, which is situated five minutes from the resort. The airport, one of the fastest growing in the MENA region, is preparing to deliver speed racing enthusiasts flying from destinations across the Middle East and Europe.
