The Women Committee at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in conjunction with Dubai Health Authority, recently held an awareness program about breast cancer, which attracted wide attendance from female employees of various RTA units.

Out of its responsibility towards this significant segment of female employees at the RTA, the Committee held this one-day breast cancer educative program in collaboration with Rashid Hospital at RTA Head Office, Umm Ramool.

Dr. Aysha Al Busmait, Director of Customer Service Centers Dep't at RTA Corporate Support Services Sectors Dep't and Chairperson of RTA Women Committee, said:
"This program comes in the context of the continual efforts of the RTA to support RTA female employees and enable them to benefit from the programs and activities held by the Committee during the official working hours. The program runs for one year in cooperation with other strategic partners in the UAE."

Al Busmait added, "Through its year-long programs and activities, the Committee will support RTA female employees with activities from which they can draw benefit. Breast cancer is among the most wide-spreading diseases in the recent times and the Committee has therefore opted to hold this program for the benefit of RTA female employees, thanks God it was well received by RTA female employees."

"The program, which was supervised by a medical team from Rashid Hospital, included lectures about breast cancer detailing symptoms and areas where the disease is spread across the world. It also covered the procedures of carrying out periodical self-tests, and open the door for others who wish to be medically tested at the hospital. Educative leaflets about the disease were also distributed to the attendants. Medals displaying the campaign logo to combat the disease along with CDs of educative poems about the disease were sold and the revenue is being directed for the benefit of breast cancer patients who are unable to afford medical treatment fees," added Dr. Aysha. At the end of the program, a discussion was opened about the disease.

The medical team of Dubai Health Authority, headed by the medical surgeon and member of breast surgeon team at Rashid Hospital Dr. Amna Belhol, hailed the large uptake of the program among RTA female employees and considered the event a major success of Dubai Health Authority efforts to promote the awareness of breast cancer and the need to carry out early examination.

The medical team included general surgeon doctors, and breast cancer surgeon team at Rashid Hospital; namely: Dr. Moza Al Hattawi, Dr. Abeer Al Hamiari, and Dr. Aysha Mayman, in addition to the Head of Public Relations at Rashid Hospital Amna Rabee.

Dubai Health Authority is annually staging this campaign in October in synchronization with the international breast cancer day, in addition to several breast cancer educative programs run throughout the year.
