Major hotels represented in Chefs' Competition at Food and Hotel Oman

A total of 68 chefs from all major hotel properties in Oman will be taking part in the first-ever Chefs' Competition at Food and Hotel Oman 2009, which will be inaugurated on Monday at the Oman International Exhibition Centre in Seeb.

Organised by Omanexpo LLC in partnership with the Oman Chefs Guild, the Chefs' Competition is divided into three categories: Three-Tier Wedding Cake on October 26, Five-Course Gourmet Dinner on October 27, and Live Fruit and Vegetable Carving on October 28. All the entries will be put on display during the exhibition, which will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and then from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

"The participation of chefs from world-class hotels in Oman will add greatly to the excitement at the Chefs' Competition, making it even more worthwhile for all industry professionals to visit Food & Hotel Oman 2009," said O.S. Thomas, honorary secretary of the Oman Chefs Guild and food services manager of Al Seer.

Thomas pointed out that the hotel properties that will be represented in the Chefs' Competition include Al Bustan Palace Hotel, Al Nahda Resort & Spa, Al Qurum Resort, Crowne Plaza Muscat, Golden Tulip Hotel, Grand Hyatt Muscat, Holiday Inn Muscat, InterContinental Muscat, Oman Hotels and Tourism Company, Park Inn Muscat, Ramada Hotel, Qurum Beach Resort, Ramee Guestline Hotel, Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Sheraton Oman, and The Chedi Muscat. There will also be participants from Modern Oman Bakery, Bin Mirza International (Bread Talk), Oman Tourism College, and the National Hospitality Institute.

Sponsored by Salman Hotel and Restaurant Equipment LLC, the Chefs' Competition will award gift certificates to the top three winners in each category and all chefs joining the competition will also receive individual participation certificates. The awarding ceremonies will be held at 7:30 p.m. on October 28 at the Oman Tourism College.

"With the Chefs' Competition at Food & Hotel Oman 2009, the three-day international exhibition will truly be something that would serve the interests of all professionals in the sultanate's vibrant food and hospitality industries," said Nasser Diab, General Manager of Omanexpo LLC, the leading organiser of professional trade shows in the sultanate.

Diab revealed that over 90 local and international exhibitors will be showcasing a wide range of products and equipment at Food & Hotel Oman 2009. To be inaugurated by His Excellency Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al Maimani, Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial and Estates Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Food & Hotel Oman 2009 will feature various types of food products, kitchen and catering equipment, hotel supplies and equipment, food packaging systems, hotel décor and style, and many other products.

Food & Hotel Oman 2009 is officially supported by the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI) as well as by AKAH Najwani & Partners LLC as the major sponsor, Salman Hotel and Restaurant Equipment LLC as the platinum sponsor, and ELCO National Trading Co. LLC as the silver sponsor. The OER Dossier is the official publication of the exhibition, while the media partners are Al Watan and the Oman Tribune, Al Shabiba and the Times of Oman as well as Hospitality News Middle East and Food & Beverage News.

The Chefs' Competition, on the other hand, is mainly supported by Salman Hotel and Restaurant Equipment LLC, while Barakat Quality Plus and the Oman Tourism College are the co-sponsors.
