ADTA plans 'Leadership in Tourism' workshop

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which manages the tourism industry within the emirate, is to stage a 'Leadership in Tourism' workshop next month in collaboration with the University of Hawaii's Manoa's School of Travel Industry Management (TIM).

The one-day workshop, to be held at Le Royal Meridien Hotel, Abu Dhabi on November 24, is open free-of-charge to tourism industry professionals and decision-makers based within Abu Dhabi.

"This is another product from our expanding Professional Development Department which will assist Abu Dhabi tourism stakeholders identify and prepare for the challenges of maintaining the destination's leadership position,"

said Nasser Al Reyami, Tourism Standards Director, ADTA.

The workshop will explore best practices of leading edge destinations and provide an overview and framework for Abu Dhabi's development into a winning tourism proposition in today's competitive marketplace.

"Perhaps more importantly, the workshop will introduce the principles and practices that can keep a destination fresh and appealing. It will cover the range of activities necessary to make Abu Dhabi competitive in the years to come, including research, work force development, service delivery, product development, and branding and positioning. It will also cover the roles that Abu Dhabi's various tourism stakeholders play in maintaining a successful destination," added Al Reyami.

The University of Hawaii, Manoa's School of Travel and Industry Management (TIM) is an Asian-Pacific leader in the study of travel industry management.

"The TIM School was selected for collaboration as it is one of the world's most respected programmes in the study of hospitality and tourism management," explained Al Reyami. "TIM is well known for pioneering the concept of integrating all aspects of the tourism industry into a single study field. It has been offering innovative professional development programmes for over 30 years and its extensive expertise is now being made available to one of the youngest destinations in the industry."
