Nawras sponsors photo exhibition of first Omani North Pole explorer

Nawras chief executive officer, Ross Cormack, recently officiated at the opening of a fascinating photo exhibition illustrating Nabil Al Busaidi's epic journey to become the first Omani and the first Arab to reach the magnetic North Pole. Due to its popularity, the exhibition has been extended and can still be viewed at City Centre Qurm.

As the official telecommunications partner for the trip, Nawras sponsored Nabs, as he prefers to be known, on his arduous, record breaking journey. Each triumphant stage of the adventure was recorded by JP Downes and Dave Ward in a collection of 6,000 photographs. The pictorial record was whittled down to the best 30 shots which were put together to form the stunning montage which originally went on display at Muscat City Centre.

The exhibition has attracted a lot of attention and admiration and will be moving on shortly to be shown in Bahrain and then in Dubai.

"Nawras was thrilled to support Nabs as he undertook this pleasingly different adventure to become the first Omani to reach the magnetic North Pole", said Ross Cormack as he warmly congratulated Nabs once again.

"We were also fascinated to be able to share the daily excitement of this tremendous achievement, as each dramatic stage unfolded. Our customers, together with the whole Nawras family, were able to follow Nab's progress through the entertaining diary he wrote, which we posted every day on our WAP portal, BawaBaty."

Tremendous delight and pride was felt when Nabs planted the Omani flag at the North Pole, followed by the Nawras flag. Seeing the Nawras logo at this far flung destination was symbolic of how Nawras goes to the ends of the earth for customers. This award winning communications provider has almost 400 international roaming partners, helping customers to get closer to their friends and family.

Nabs thanked Nawras for the support and for providing the reliable means for him to communicate with the rest of the world during his expedition. He added that with the help of Nawras, a documentary film is currently being finalised and he hopes that his journey will help to inspire others to work hard and persevere to achieve their goals.

Nawras is no stranger to delivering reliable communication requirements for momentous events. At the beginning of the year, Nawras, as part of the Qtel Group, was chosen to be the official telecommunications partner for another highly successful challenge in the form of the 19th Arabian Gulf Cup. On that occasion too, Oman was victorious and new records were created.

Even though Nabs' North Pole adventure is over, customers can continue to access BawaBaty to select ringtones or read the latest news as well as sports, health, weather and entertainment information by simply clicking on their WAP browser or entering wap.nawras.com.om.

Nawras covers 96% of the population with its reliable EDGE network and over 40% with its trusted 3G+ network.
