1,312 tonnes of waste collected on 3rd day of Clean Up The World

More than 7,100 volunteers, including students from 42 private educational institutions in Dubai as well as employees of 108 private and government establishments collected a total of 1,312 tonnes of waste during the third day of the Clean Up the World campaign 2009 from various locations of the city.
As many as 2,900 Students from 42 private schools, colleges and universities in the city gathered at Al Sufooh area to pick up litter and help save environment. They collected a total of 250 tonnes of waste during the clean up operation.
During the third day of the clean up campaign, 14 abandoned vehicles were removed away from different parts of the city. This includes four heavy vehicles and 10 light vehicles.
In addition, a total of 20 pieces of bulk waste including furniture, air conditioners and refrigerators were collected during the clean up operation.
As part of the Clean Up the World campaign 2009 an educational exhibition was organized at the Municipality Headquarters on 28th and 29th October in cooperation with the Eco Polymer company during which environment friendly shopping bags, degradable samples, fliers, brochures, DVDs and additive samples were displayed.
As part of the exhibition, a film on environment friendly plastic bags was screened, in addition to distributing publicity materials to the Municipality employees and customers. The photographs that were entries in the photography contest organized as part of the Clean Up The World campaign 2009 were also exhibited in the Municipality.
Other activities organized by the Environmental Awareness Section of the Municipality included the Green Box campaign organized in cooperation with the Warehouse Section of the Contracts and Purchasing Department. The campaign urged the employees of the Municipality to donate unused electronic equipments, bags, office stationery and furniture.
The Clean Up the World campaign 2009 will conclude today (Friday, 30 October) with thousands of volunteers from the general public including private company staff, non-governmental organizations, community groups and private entities joining hands in cleaning up Nadd Al Shiba Area, in addition to a clean up programme by the Filipino community and employees of Dnata at Mamzar Beach.
