Sana Bagersh, the magazine's editor, said:
"Abu Dhabi Tempo is a different kind of magazine. We believe Abu Dhabi is a special place with its own distinct tempo, and its own soul. The magazine and website are intended to serve residents and visitors alike, to reflect our thriving community, celebrate our differences, and also show how much we all of have in common. Abu Dhabi Tempo is intended to reflect the news and views of regular folk, and allow people to share their own personal and unique stories."
Bagersh said the magazine format has already proved to be a big success. "We've had amazing feedback from readers who have told us that they like the 'personal' feel of the magazine, and have told us how the stories we feature help people reach out to each other."
The magazine is distributed free of charge throughout Abu Dhabi; to residential towers, coffee shops, malls, hotels and office blocks. "Our first issue had a print run of 15,000 plus 30,000 electronic dispatches. The magazines ran out quickly and we were inundated with requests for additional copies. So with the second issue—November—we increased the print copies to 30,000 and increased the e-copies to 40,000."
Bagersh explained that abudhabitempo.com was launched at about the same time the magazine hit the streets, along with presences on both Facebook and Twitter. The website, she added, utilizes a robust content-management platform that allows considerable interactivity, including download features and multiple chat blogs.
