He will be joining thirty CEO's elected from a selection of airlines around the world including Mr. Willy Walsh, CEO of BA, Mr. Gerard Arpey Chairman and President and CEO of American Airlines and Mr. Wolfgang Mayrhuber, Chairman and CEO of Lufthansa.
The members of the IATA Board of Governors lead by their new Chairman Tony Tyler, CEO of Cathay Pacific, exercise an oversight and executive role on behalf of the membership as a whole in representing the interests of the Association.
Gulf Air Chief Executive Mr. Samer Majali commented:
"It is a great honour to serve once again on the Board of Governors of IATA, representing Gulf Air and the airlines in the region."
"IATA has been in the forefront of serving the global airline industry by setting new standards across the industry' various functions, be it safety, customer service or environmental protection. During my tenure as the Chairman of the Governing body, I have personally seen the professional support it has been providing to the industry stakeholders with a wide range of products and expert services such as training and consulting, that has benefitted its members enormously."
"As a member of the governing board I will be able to share, exchange and harness the collective knowledge and wisdom among other members of the Board so that the global aviation community can benefit from it," concluded Mr. Majali.
IATA represents, leads and serves the global airline industry and over the past 60 years, has helped the global airline companies develop commercial standards, simplify processes and increase passenger convenience, while reducing costs and improving efficiency. Today IATA's members comprise 230 airlines representing 93% of scheduled international air traffic.
