Sharjah-based Dana Gas, the Middle East's first and largest regional private sector natural gas company, has been announced as the main sponsor of the Sharjah Water Festival 2009.

Speaking of the festival, H.E. Mohamed A. Al Noman, Director General of the SCTDA, said:

"Following the resounding success of previous editions of the Sharjah Water Festival, it has become a huge attraction for visitors from within the UAE and abroad. Therefore, the challenge to maintain and further improve the already innovative entertainment and family activities is bigger than ever"

"This year's edition will feature a host of exciting activities, including the acrobats, aqua fantasia, firework shows and entertainment shows that all have proven tremendously popular in past editions of the Festival. We want the 2009 Sharjah Water Festival to be a family-oriented tourism and sporting event that offers a variety of entertainment, amusement and educational activities with a particular focus on the emirate's history, culture and heritage," Al Noman added.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr Ahmed Al Arbeed, CEO of Dana Gas, said: "We at Dana Gas are committed to supporting sports and entertainment activities that are held in Sharjah, due to the positive impact such events have on both residents and visitors. The Sharjah Water Festival reflects the Sharjah's image as a dynamic hub for high-profile entertainment, sports and cultural activities. Therefore, we believe that the Festival presents an ideal platform for Dana Gas to affirm our commitment to supporting community activities."

The Sharjah Water Festival is an annual event that takes place on Sharjah's Khalid Lagoon and in the adjacent Al Majaz Park. The festival will culminate in the Sharjah Grand Prix 2009 - the final round of the UIM Formula One World Powerboat Championship, which will be held in Sharjah for the 10th consecutive year this year.
