The College of American Pathologists, the leading organization of board-certified pathologists, serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine. Its Laboratory Accreditation Program, which was started in the early 1960s, is recognized by the United States federal government as being equal to- or more stringent than- the government's own inspection program.

"We are thrilled to receive this accreditation following our ceaseless endeavors to operate our laboratory to a world-class standard, thereby providing the hospital - and in turn our patients - with the safest and most accurate diagnoses possible. Receiving this prestigious endorsement empowers us to work even harder to ensure that across our facility, we are similarly recognized by official bodies that reward excellence in healthcare."

explained Dr. Hala Abdelaziz, Histopatologist and Head of Laboratory, The City Hospital.

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors visited The City Hospital to examine the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding year. CAP inspectors also examined staff qualifications, laboratory equipment, facilities, safety program and records, and the overall management of the laboratory. This stringent inspection program is designed to specifically ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
