Prior to joining Zurich Insurance Company Ltd, Mike spent two years with Infrassure Ltd in Switzerland as an Underwriting and Claims Manager in their Oil, Gas & Petrochemical team dealing with Middle East business. Preceding that, Mike spent nearly six years in Calgary, Canada and before that nearly twelve years in the Middle East, in Riyadh and Al Khobar in Saudi Arabia and in Dubai, UAE and Kuwait. Mike began his insurance career in the City of London having completed studies in Engineering Technology.
The appointment underlines ZIC's commitment to employing experienced industry experts to spearhead each specific sector of its business. Mike will report to Saad Mered, Chief Executive Officer, Zurich Middle East and to the President of Global Energy, Rick Gibbons. He will also share a close working relationship with Alfredo Alfonso, Chief Underwriting Officer of Zurich Middle East.
Saad Mered, Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") of Zurich Middle East, the business unit responsible for driving ZIC's activities in the region, said:

Mike brings over twenty-five years of energy and technical / engineering insurance experience to the role including underwriting, risk engineering and claims. He has extensive experience of onshore and offshore energy risks - both upstream and downstream, construction and builders' risks, onshore and offshore drilling, refining and petrochemical risks, power generation and transmission, mining and other utilities; from both an insurance and reinsurance perspective.
