The tower's engineers have created an 18 degree westward lean - four times the inclination on the Leaning Tower of Pisa - using diagrid structures that are aligned geometrically using Tekla Structures BIM (Building Information Modeling) software.

Tekla Structures software has been used to model some of the world's most recent iconic buildings. It allows for gravity-defying architectural designs to be created using three-dimensional modeling.

Three dimensional coordinates for each diagrid component are calculated using Tekla software that ensures seamless integration and assembly of the frame and supporting beams.

Tahir Sharif, Managing Director of Tekla Middle East, said:
"Tekla solutions help craft even the most complicated designs, and Capital Gate is yet another example of Tekla's ability to help design and model iconic marvels."

Other iconic structures around the world that have used diagrid and Tekla technology include Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium, the Hearst Tower in New York, Abu Dhabi's Aldar HQ, and the Swiss Re (Gherkin) building in London, to name a few.

ADNEC's Capital Gate is a 35 storey, 160 metre tower with an 18 degree lean and is due for completion in 2010.

About Tekla:

Tekla's model-based software products make customers' core processes more effective in building and construction and infrastructure management. Tekla Corporation has area offices and partner organizations worldwide. International operations account for more than 80% of net sales. Founded in 1966, Tekla is one of the longest operating software companies in Finland. Tekla's technology creates new opportunities for the construction industry: Tekla Structures, the most advanced BIM (Building Information Modeling) software on the market, provides an accurate, dynamic, and data-rich 3D environment that can be shared by contractors, structural engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, as well as concrete detailers and manufacturers. The highly detailed as-built structural models created in Tekla Structures enable the highest level of constructability and production control. Centralizing model and non-model based data into the model allows for more collaborative and integrated project management and delivery. This translates into increased productivity, elimination of waste, and an enhanced value for structural modeling.
