HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attends Dubai 2020 meeting

UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended part of the working group meeting of the Dubai 2020 Organising Committee, which was held at Emirates Towers today.

The meeting was chaired by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and was attended by a large number of committee members, including Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chief Executive of Emirates Group Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development Abdul Rahman Mohammed Nassir Al Owais, along with other government department heads and senior officials.

Sheikh Mohammed spoke of the importance of teamwork, and called on the committee members to work in harmony in order to succeed and win the bid to bring the 2020 World Expo and the Olympic Games to Dubai and the UAE.

He described to the committee how events of this magnitude deserve and require all their attention, efforts and time, in addition to putting the necessary integrated infrastructure, logistical planning and promotional and entertainment facilities in place. He went on to say that no target is impossible to reach, as long as there is a well-thought-out action plan and a spirit of willingness and adaptability to win the bid.

After expressing his confidence in the chairman and members of the higher organising committee, Sheikh Mohammed described Dubai's rich Arab history and sublime record of achievement that enables it to win favour with countries and companies around the world. He concluded by asserting that the UAE can reach all targets in place and turn the dream of hosting the two events into reality.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed welcomed the aforementioned committee members along with Commander General of Dubai Police Lt. General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Director of Dubai Ruler's Court Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shebani, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of Dubai Municipality Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Healthcare Authority Qadi Saeed Al Murooshid, Vice President of the National Olympic Committee Yousef Al Serkal, Media Escort to Sheikh Mohammed and Managing Director of Dubai Media Incorporated Ahmed Abdullah Sheikh, Executive Chairman of Dubai World Trade Centre Hilal Saeed Al Murri, Chief Executive of Falcon and Associates Giselle Davies and Vice Chairman of Falcon and Associates John Ferguson.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan drew attention to the organising committee's action plan, and stressed the importance of this, the first of many meetings, where they will discuss and examine the latest ideas and suggestions to support and strengthen Dubai's bid for the 2020 World Expo and Olympic Games.

Describing Dubai as the capital of finance and business in the Middle East and Asia, Sheikh Hamdan urged the team to garner their optimism, so that they may push forward and find effective suggestions and solutions, and with them win the approval and support of countries around the world.

The meeting concluded with the formation of an executive subcommittee with a membership of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Abdul Rahman Mohammed Nassir Al Owais, Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Hussein Nasser Lootah, Yousef Al Serkal, Ahmed Abdullah Sheikh, Hilal Saeed Al Murri, Giselle Davies and John Ferguson.
