Jazeera Airways sponsors youth rugby in Kuwait, helping youngsters realize their dreams
- Kuwait: Tuesday, November 03 - 2009 at 16:24
- PRESS RELEASE
Jazeera Airways, one of the fastest-growing airlines in the Middle East, today announced it has entered into an agreement to sponsor the mini and youth teams of the Kuwait Saracens Youth Rugby Club for the 2009/ 2010 season.
The Kuwait Saracens Youth Rugby Club, which is affiliated to the oldest Rugby Club in the Gulf - the Kuwait Nomads - welcomes players between the ages of four and 18, which are taught at Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union (AGRFU) clubs across the region, including at the Kuwait Saracens Youth Rugby Club, which already has a growing number of Kuwaiti young boys and girls in its teams.
Rugby has been steadily growing in popularity in Kuwait, and attracts a large number of local and expatriate new players - young and old - each season, thanks in part to hugely popular, high-profile regional tournaments like the rugby sevens. Its popularity is expected to grow even further following the recent decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to add rugby sevens to the Olympics, beginning with the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Speaking about the decision to sponsor the Kuwait Saracens youth teams, Stefan Pichler, CEO, Jazeera Airways, said, "Jazeera as a national airline of Kuwait is firmly committed to our home country and as a home-grown Kuwaiti company, we are happy to be supporting an organization in our local community that does so much to promote fitness, teamwork, cultural integration and healthy competition among young people."
"It is also hugely exciting to think that some of the young girls and boys that we are supporting today may go on to be the Olympians of tomorrow, proudly representing Kuwait, so we are excited to be a part of promoting Kuwait through sport," added Pichler.
Hennie Uys , Club Chairman, commented, "Upcoming rugby tournaments that Kuwait's talented rugby players will be competing in include the Abu Dhabi Mini and Youth Festival on 14 and 15 November, and the Dubai Exiles Mini and Youth Tournament on 13 and 14 February 2010. Two further competitions will be held in Bahrain this season as well as a planned outgoing tour to Cyprus or Lebanon. Without the help of Jazeera Airways none of this would have been possible and our young players can now experience the joys of "Freedom"."
Jazeera Airways currently operates a fleet of ten new Airbus A320s. Each aircraft is fitted with the airline's signature leather seating, while the Jazeera Business Class cabin offers business travellers a little extra convenience including easy booking, special check-in counters, a 40 kgs baggage allowance, access to airport lounges and exclusive in-flight service and entertainment. The airline flies to destinations in the Middle East, North Africa, Iran, and the Indian subcontinent.
