A total of 1335 students were screened and checked for signs of tooth decay and gum problems. The EHL dental team also offered the students advice on how to properly care for- and brush- their teeth, and advised them to regularly visit their dentist.
EHL also undertook a number of initiatives relating to specific areas of health. A team of EHL specialists on women's health reached out to 495 female students, staff and parents to teach them about breast cancer awareness and to instil the idea that prevention is better than cure - from a young age. In addition, 675 students attended a session about all areas of adolescent health and keeping fit and healthy throughout the teenage years; while another 775 students benefited from sessions by EHL nutritionists and general practitioners about healthy eating, and how to make the right food choices.
"At EHL we understand that the key to achieving long-term good health within a community starts by educating young people and equipping them with the tools and knowledge they need to stay healthy throughout their lives. By reaching out to young people across Dubai, we are also bringing attention to those issues that are particularly prevalent in this part of the world including diabetes, in line with the Ministry of Health's efforts to limit their impact. This therefore serves to improve the overall health of the population,"
explained Dr. Pietie Loubser, Chief Clinical Officer, EHL.
EHL Management Services is a joint venture between the South African private hospital group - Medi-Clinic Corporation, the Dubai based Varkey Group and GE.
