Batelco honours five contractors at its third 'Call Before You Dig' workshop

The aim of these workshops is to increase co-operation between Batelco and the contractors and highlight the importance of protecting Batelco's infrastructure from any damages to ensure continuity of services for customers.

Invitations to attend the workshop were sent to a number of contractors, heads of municipal councils, engineers in charge of implementing projects in the five municipalities, as well as service ministries such as electricity, water, sewage and roads.

Batelco Senior Manager Access Network Development & Delivery Assurance Mohammed Al Mukhtar welcomed the participants and praised the level of co-operation between Batelco and all concerned parties as a result of the first two workshops held last year, which led to a significant decrease in the number of incidents to the company's underground cables.

A film was shown to the audience explaining the source of damages and the steps to avoid them in future. Additionally, participants in the workshop gave presentations that demonstrated the elements of Batelco's network and urged all concerned parties to contact Batelco Plant Protection office prior to beginning any new construction project.

Key amongst the points highlighted is the importance for every contractor to take responsibility to ensure the safety of all services that Batelco offers and also the services of Bahrain's ministries. These are crucial elements in maintaining Bahrain's image and in ensuring that major establishments choose the Kingdom as their regional hub. Furthermore, an effective communications infrastructure fully supports Bahrain's 2030 economic vision.

Five contractors, who showed a very high level of co-operation with Batelco Plant Protection office, were presented with certificates of appreciation and trophies in recognition of their efforts to protect Batelco's network while implementing their projects during 2009.
