Borouge 3 site preparation initiated with awarding of contract to Al Asab

Borouge, a leading provider of innovative value creating plastics solutions, today announced the awarding of its Borouge 3 site preparation contract to Al Asab General Transportations and Contracting Establishment of Abu Dhabi.

It will take approximately one year to prepare some 3.6kmē for the expansion of the Company's petrochemical complex in Ruwais, approximately 250km west of Abu Dhabi City and adjacently east of Borouge's current facilities.

In addition to awarding of the Project Management Consultancy agreement to Bechtel earlier in the year, Borouge has awarded the contract for an ethane cracker to The Linde Group and Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) contracts to Technimont and Jacobs Engineering.

The Borouge 3 petrochemical complex includes an ethane cracker, second generation Borstar polypropylene and polyethylene units, a low density polyethylene unit and a Butene unit, as well as related off-site utilities and marine facilities. It will increase Borouge's total production capacity to 4.5m tonnes by the end of 2013.

Borouge is a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), one of the world's largest oil and gas companies, and Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions.
