Khalifa University to host International Atomic Energy Agency meetings

Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR) is hosting and organizing the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) National Coordinators meeting and Cyber Learning workshop in Abu Dhabi next week. More than 30 participants from over 25 countries will be attending the Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT) meeting and workshop to discuss the IAEA Regional Technical Cooperation Project entitled 'Supporting Web-based Nuclear Education and Training through Regional Networking'.

The project was established for the Asia and the Pacific region with the objective of supporting the web-based development, consolidation and utilization of standardized educational and training programs in nuclear sciences and applications.

The meeting and the Cyber Learning workshop will provide a forum for the participants to: identify new and emerging challenges in their locales; update the group on the status of nuclear education and training in their nation, and; make recommendations to facilitate such education and training through cyber learning.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, KUSTAR's Interim President, commented:

"Khalifa University was selected to host this event to reflect its emerging importance in the field of science, technology and research. The development of this sector is integral to the growth of the UAE's knowledge-based economy. Our mission at the University is to be at the forefront supporting this long-term strategic aim."


KUSTAR has also taken a leading role in developing plans to strengthen the human resource capability of the UAE as the nation moves toward implementing a peaceful civil nuclear energy program to fuel the economic and social growth of the country.

Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTASR) was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

KUSTAR's main campus is located in Abu Dhabi, while it operates another campus in Sharjah. It presently offers bachelor, master, and doctorate degree programs in various areas of engineering and in the future, will offer degrees in five main disciplines: engineering, logistics management, health sciences, homeland security and sciences. KUSTAR is open to men and women from all nationalities with particular emphasis being placed on educating young UAE nationals.

An international Centre for Research & Development is being developed to ensure that research is an integral component of the University.
