HCT and Durham University sign Memorandum of Understanding for educational development

Durham University and the Higher Colleges of Technology have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together in exploring opportunities for cooperation.

Both institutions agree to explore the possibilities in fields of Islamic Finance, teaching and research.

The agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi by HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology and Professor Christopher Higgins, Vice Chancellor and Warden, Durham University, on 1st November, 2009.

The institutions will explore exchange opportunities in fields of mutual interest, invitations to scholars for lectures, conferences, colloquia and symposia as well as possibilities for exchange of faculty members, and postgraduate and undergraduate students.

Professor Anoush Ehteshami Dean of Internationalisation, Durham University, said:

"We are delighted to strengthen our links with the UAE Higher Colleges of Technology through the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding and look forward to working closely with HCT in many areas, including staff exchanges and joint programme development. We see this as a significant step in our drive to develop long-term, sustainable relations with such a dynamic partner institution as HCT. The HCT has made a considerable footprint on the UAE's educational landscape and we welcome the opportunity to enter into a fruitful partnership with it as we both look forward to responding to the exciting opportunities arising from the globalization of education and new learning environments. We anticipate a long and fruitful relationship and are very appreciative of Dr Tayeb A. Kamali, the Vice Chancellor, for his continued support in developing the link with Durham University."
