W Doha wins Luxe List Kudos

W Doha, the latest addition to the city's fast-changing skyline, has been named to the Luxe List of DestinAsian magazine, the leading travel and lifestyle publication in the Asia-Pacific region. An annual list of the best new properties, the Luxe List is respected as the regional industry's Who's Who, naming the finest in style, service and surrounds.

W Doha, which opened March this year, made the 2009 list with only 38 other entries such as the world's tallest hotel, designer digs outside the Mongolian capital and an 18th century Sri Lankan manor house reborn. It has been a busy year for the region's hotel industry with what could be a record number of properties opening, despite the economic gloom.

The Luxe List is compiled of notable debuts researched and reported by a roving band of discerning contributors. They noted W Doha was 'sure to raise a few eyebrows' with its location in the heart of the futuristic City Center shopping complex. The hotel wowed with its 'cheeky', '60s ski-lodge feel' with its shimmering curtains, mood lighting and the '291 rooms' exceptionally comfy beds. W Doha's 290-square meter E-WOW suite received an enthusiastic nod with its party-people-friendly snooker table, aquariums and life-sized horse lamp.

W Doha's chirpy, young staff representing 52 nationalities was noted, as was the hotel's diverse culinary options, including Michelin three-star celebrity chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten's two restaurants, Market by Jean-Georges and Spice Market, French bistro, La Maison du Caviar and a Teuscher chocolate shop. WET and Wahm, W Doha's pool and pool-side lounge, made the grade with WET's multi-tiered, black-tiled pool featuring underwater music and fiber-optic lighting, and Wahm's colorful, comfy cabanas. Bliss Spa, the first outlet of the New York-based chain in the Middle East, was recognized for its unusual treatments such as the Quadruple 'thigh-pass' massage.

"It is a great honor and we are very excited to have been recognized by the competitive luxury travel and tourism industry through the prestigious DestinAsian Luxe List. The entries on the Luxe List represent the very best of boutique and five-star properties in the market. The list is important not simply for tourists, as it also notes the economic health and development of the region. W Doha is a truly remarkable hotel and we could not be happier to receive this recognition,"

said Mr. Safak Guvenc, W Doha General Manager.

DestinAsian magazine has been in production since 2001, providing information for smart, sophisticated travelers, noting the latest in travel trends and fabulous destinations which link travel and lifestyle. It reports the best of what is new in the region's architecture, cuisine, excursions, industry issues and fashion.
