During his opening address, Mr. Hejres will use specific illustrative examples form the project, and said that the recent economic crisis has put the impetus on mega-developers to seek and utilize cutting edge and innovative sustainable planning and development methods in their projects.
Other keynote speakers at the conference are Dr. Juma Al Kaabi, Minister of Municipalities and Agricultural Affairs, and Mr. Naif Omar Al Kalali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, and Mr. Tuan Lim Juan, Chief Minister of Penang, Malaysia.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Hejres said:
"Urban Waterfronts is a key event for us, as providing publicly accessible waterfront is a fundamental aspect of our development, and is inspired by Muharraq's strong connection with the sea. The facilities contained within the development have been carefully designed that present spectacular waterfront views to the city's residents and visitors from almost any angle. We are extremely delighted to sponsor the Urban Waterfronts Conference this year, and to represent Bahrain as we share the rich experience we accumulated in front of an elite group of companies and international organizations and exchange ideas and best practices around this topic."
"Our masterplan went beyond the current regulatory requirements to create a whole new concept in urban planning and development," he added.
"We have taken into consideration all factors that a project of this size requires to make it a truly self-contained city. We also crafted many pioneering technologies such as the DIANA water monitoring system which have been recognized worldwide."
The important topics discussed in the conference make it one of the leading events of the calendar year for real estate developers, especially waterfront projects. The value of such projects globally is estimated at $500bn over the next five years. So far, the event has attracted over 200 delegates representing some of the most renowned international and local organizations in the real estate and urban development sector.
Diyar Al Muharraq is a unique master-planned city offering a wide range of housing options and quality lifestyle for all strata of society.
The project features a cohesive mix of residential and commercial properties with the potential for around 30,000 dwellings housing over 120,000 people, as well as 40 kilometers of coastline and landscaped surroundings that are expected to make it one of the most attractive destinations in the Kingdom.
